Jr. Islanders explode offensively

CHATHAM, N.B. – The P.E.I. Islanders took the lumber on the road Saturday.

The Islanders hammered out 37 hits, including four home runs, in sweeping the Chatham Ironmen in a New Brunswick Junior Baseball League doubleheader.
The Islanders, who improved their first-place record to 13-3 (won-lost), won Game 1 by a 13-5 score, and outlasted their hosts 15-9 in the second contest.
The Islanders will host Moncton (10-2) for a pair of games at Memorial Field in Charlottetown on Saturday. The action begins at noon.

Islanders 13 Ironmen 5
Darcy Affleck smashed two home runs and went 3-for-3, with two walks and five runs batted in, to pace a 17-hit attack for the Islanders. Kyle Pinksen (4-4) and Ryne MacIsaac (3-4) each scored four times while Connor McGregor also had a pair of hits.
Winning pitcher was Porter Smith, who received one inning of relief from Logan Gallant. Mike McKay was the pitcher of record for the Ironmen, who received two hits from Jake Cook.

Islanders 15 Ironmen 9
The Islanders spotted Chatham a 4-0 lead on Cook’s three-run blast, before roaring back with a 20-hit outburst.
Pinksen and Curtis McGregor connected for home runs for the Islanders while MacIsaac, Affleck, Jayden MacLean and Chasse Gallant all had three hits. Gallant, Pinksen, Curtis McGregor and Brandon Watts all registered two hits each.
Brett Hicken grinded out the complete-game win. Chris Kelly took the loss.
Zach Newman had three hits to pace the Ironmen.
