Jordan Stevenson cruised through the first four innings, allowing a second-inning single to Ron Barton.
In the fifth, Barton drew a one-out walk before Stevenson struck Mark Legere out but Scott May, Ryan Van Snick, Adam Clark and Ryan Owens hit consecutive singles to make it 2-0 Saint John. Devin Thomas followed with a two-run double to double the score in the Alpines hit-around fifth inning.
The Islanders got on the board in the sixth inning when Ryne MacIsaac scored Cole MacLaren from third base on a 4-6-3 double play.
Brooks Saunders picked up the win with four innings of relief. He allowed a run on four hits and three walks while striking out two.
Saint John starter Shaun O’Toole allowed two hits in three shutout innings.
Stevenson was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out five and walked one. Colin Arsenault gave up three hits and hit two batters in two innings of work.
Van Snick was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run while Owens was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Mark Phillips also added a single for Saint John.
Brady Arsenault was 2-for-3 for the Islanders while Taylor Larkin and Brody McDonald each had doubles. Jesse MacIntyre and Josh McKinnon added singles in the loss.
