PEAKES, P.E.I. — The Morell Chevies scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 deadlock and held on to edge the Peakes Bombers 6-4 Sunday afternoonto even their Kings County Baseball League semifinal at one win apiece.
The Chevies jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a Darcy Affleck RBI single in the first inning and added three runs in the second on a pair of RBI hits by Logan Gallant and a Jarrod Laybolt. The Bombers battled back with a single run in the fourth inning on a Connor Myers RBI single. Three runs in the fifth, keyed by a two-run single by Dillon Doucette knotted the game at four.
In the deciding sixth inning, Scott Harper drove home Taylor Larkin off losing pitcher Doucette, while Gallant added a sacrifice fly off reliever Josh Coffin for the insurance run.
Gallant picked up the win, relieving Larkin with two outs in the fifth inning. Harper finished with a double, two walks and three runs scored to lead the Chevies offensively. Doucette was 2-for-3 to lead the Bombers.
Game three in the best-of-five series is set for Wednesday eveningin Morell. Game time is 6:30p.m.
