MORELL, P.E.I. — Jarrod Laybolt drove home Scott Harper with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Morell Chevies to a 4-3 win over the Peakes Bombers Wednesday in Kings County Baseball League playoff action.

The Chevies now lead the best-of-five semifinal 2-1 and can wrap up the series with a victory Sunday at 4 p.m. in Peakes.

The winner of the series will play The Alley Stratford Athletics in the championship final after the A’s defeated the Northside Brewers 4-3 Wednesday to complete the semifinal sweep.

Chevies 4, Bombers 3

The Chevies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Laybolt drove home Matt Barlow with a two-out single off Peakes starter Josh Coffin. The Bombers knotted the score in the fifth on a Colin Myers fielder’s choice.

The Chevies answered with two runs in their half of the fifth, on RBI singles by Logan Gallant and Darcy Affleck. The Bombers responded once again in the sixth, with Tyson MacInnis driving in a run on an RBI ground out and Connor Myers tying the score on a single down the third-base line.

The teams exchanged scoring chances until the Chevies struck in the eighth. Gallant picked up the win for the Chevies, relieving Troy Coffin in the seventh inning, with Rob Phelan taking the loss in relief of Coffin.

Gallant and Laybolt paced the Chevies’ 11-hit attack with three hits apiece, while the Bombers had five hits on the night, with Dillon Doucette reaching base on three walks.

Athletics 4, Brewers 3

Brady Arsenault pitched six strong innings in picking up the win for the Athletics while Jonathan Arsenault pitched the seventh for the save.
Jayden Maclean went the distance in taking the loss.

Shawn MacDougall led the A's at the plate with two hits, including a two-run homerun. Jacob Smith had the other key hit for the A's, driving in the eventual game-winning run with a two-out RBI double in the fourth inning.

Dustin Larkin had an RBI double for the Brewers.
