MORELL, P.E.I. — The Morell Chevies scored three runs in the fifth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and went on to down The Alley Stratford A’s 6-2 Sunday afternoon to even the Kings County Baseball League final at one game apiece.

Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Wednesday in Stratford at 7:30 p.m.

The Athletics would strike first on Sunday as Jonathon Arsenault scored the first run on a Randy Taylor infield single in the top of the third. The Chevies tied the game in their half of the third as Darcy Affleck crossed home plate on a fielder’s choice. Stratford would plate a single run in the fourth inning when Dom Ryan scored on a double-play ball.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Chevies struck for three runs off Stratford starting pitcher Dan O’Shea. With one out, Matt Barlow and Jarrod Laybolt would hit back-to-back singles. After a walk to Affleck loaded the bases, Desi Doyle hit a hard shot down the third-base line that was mishandled by the A’s third baseman to tie the game 2-2.

Troy Coffin would then line a single to right field to break the deadlock and a Stephen O’Shea sacrifice fly made the score 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, the Chevies tacked on two insurance runs on RBI singles by Laybolt and Doyle.

Coffin would pitch a scoreless seventh inning to earn the complete-game win, allowing just three hits and striking out six. O’Shea took the loss, with relief from Arsenault.

Scott Harper, Barlow, Laybolt and Doyle all had two hits to pace the Chevies. Ryne MacIsaac had a pair of hits to lead Stratford.
