CORNER BROOK, N.L. – The Cardigan/Northside Clippers are returning from Corner Brook, N.L., as the Atlantic midget AA baseball champions.

After a successful season that saw them win the Summerside Area Baseball Association (SABA) tournament, eliminations, provincials and the league title, the Clippers carried on their winning ways in Newfoundland.

After a rough start, which saw them lose their first game to Nova Scotia, they turned it around and handily won the championship game against Mount Pearl, N.L., 12-0 in five innings. Jack MacKenzie was named top pitcher of the tournament with the championship game win on Sunday. Ben MacDougall, who was picked up from the Summerside squad for the Atlantics, was named tournament MVP with a pitching win on Saturday and went 10-for-12 at the plate during the weekend.
