CARDIGAN, P.E.I. – Quinn Hughes got his second win of the season Sunday, pitching four innings as the Cardigan Clippers held on for a 9-8 victory over the Stratford Athletics in Kings County Baseball League action.

The Clippers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first inning and added another three runs in the third. Stratford battled back, taking advantage of some costly Clippers errors to make it close.

Hughes allowed two runs on three hits. Kevin Macleod came in in the fifth inning and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to record the save.

Ronnie De la Cruz suffered the loss with relief help from Adam Smith in the fifth.

Macleod was 2-for-4 with two doubles as part of the Clippers’ 12-hit attack. Charles Maclellan and Morgan McAree were 2-for-4 while Hughes was 1-for-2.

Shawn MacDougall was 3-for-4 and Randy Taylor 2-for-4 for Stratford.
