CARDIGAN, P.E.I. — The Peakes Bombers held off the Cardigan Clippers comeback to take a 9-8 victory during Kings County Baseball League action Sunday afternoon in Cardigan.
Down 9-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Clippers battled hard, only to leave the tying run on second base as Rob Phelan got Liam Laybolt to ground out to end the game.
Dillon Doucette was the winning pitcher, while Charles MacLellan took the loss and Phelan earned the save.
Phelan also led the Bombers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Colin Myers went 2-for-3 with a walk and three stolen bases, while Doucette went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer to round out the offence for the Bombers.
Kevin MacLeod was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Clippers while Sam Walsh was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored and Ben Doucette was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
