PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. – Canada finished fourth at the World Baseball Softball Confederation junior men’s softball world championship in Prince Albert, Sask.
Tignish’s Dawson Sellick played the outfield while Dock resident Jeff Ellsworth was the head coach and Mark Quinn of Cardigan was one of his assistants.
Canada lost 5-2 to New Zealand on Saturday to be eliminated from medal contention. New Zealand plays Japan Sunday at 3 p.m. Atlantic with the winner meeting Australia in the final at 6 p.m.
Against Canada, New Zealand scored twice in each of the third and fourth innings and went up 5-0 with another run in the fifth. Canada responded with a deuce in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough.
Canada was limited to three hits, including a two-run homerun by third baseman Isaac Lefebvre.
Canada lost 2-0 to Australia late Friday night in the double-life game. They responded by defeating Argentina 6-4 Saturday to set up the battle with New Zealand.
Sellick was 0-for-2 against Australia.
