PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. – Canada used a six-run third inning to defeat New Zealand 8-5 and remain undefeated Tuesday at the World Baseball Softball Confederation junior men’s softball world championship in Prince Albert, Sask.
The win clinched top spot in Pool B for Canada.
Tignish’s Dawson Sellick, who played left field in the contest, went 0-for-4 and scored a run in a battle of 3-0 squads.
New Zealand scored twice in the bottom of the first and once in the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-3. Canada added single runs in the final two innings and New Zealand responded with two runs in its final at bat.
Dallas Kipfer was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for the home side. Pitchers David Watson, Owen Torrie and Riley Manion combined for the victory.
Dock resident Jeff Ellsworth is the head coach while Mark Quinn of Cardigan is one of his assistants.
Canada is off today, returning to the diamond on Thursday against Hong Kong (0-4) at 11 p.m. Atlantic in its final game of the preliminary round at the 13-team tournament.
