Braves go 3-2 at under-16 Eastern Canadians

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – The Eastern P.E.I. Braves finished their Eastern Canadian under-16 girls’ softball championship with a win Saturday in Dartmouth, N.S.

The Braves defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 10-0 in six innings to complete round-robin play 3-2. They finished in a three-way tie for second place in their six-team pool but didn’t advance to Sunday’s playoffs due to runs for and against.

Brenna Ing and Emma Hughes each had three hits to pace the offence Saturday afternoon. Pitcher Abbey Smith and catcher Ava Menard teamed up to allow only three base hits and threw out an attempted steal of third base.

Smith struck out nine and was named the team’s player of the game.
