Matt Chapman hit two home runs, and Robbie Grossman added a two-run shot to back the seven-inning shutout pitching of right-hander Homer Bailey on Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Oakland Athletics earned a 9-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
The clubs split their two-game interleague series and will meet in a two-game rematch next weekend across the San Francisco Bay in Oakland.
About 15 hours after they had stranded the potential tying run at third base to end a 3-2 loss to the Giants, the A's started fast, going up 2-0 on a first-inning solo homer by Chapman and a two-out, run-scoring infield single by Bailey in the second.
Matt Olson made it 4-0 against Giants starter Tyler Beede (3-7) with a two-run double in the third, before Grossman broke the game open with a two-run homer, his sixth, to make it 6-0 in the sixth.
Beede was pulled one batter into the fifth, charged with four runs and eight hits in four-plus innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
The A's increased their lead to 7-0 in the eighth on an RBI triple by Marcus Semien.
Bailey (10-8), who had been roughed up for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in his previous start against the Chicago Cubs, was near-perfect in his seven innings against the Giants.
He allowed three baserunners -- two on singles by Kevin Pillar -- and no runner past second base. He also walked one and struck out seven.
The Giants made things interesting in the eighth, ripping Joakim Soria for four runs, three on Mike Yastrzemski's 13th home run of the season. They added a fifth run against Yusmeiro Petit when Evan Longoria singled, Stephen Vogt doubled and pinch hitter Alex Dickerson grounded an RBI infield out.
But A's closer Liam Hendriks came on to strike out Pillar, representing the tying run, to preserve a 7-5 lead, then coasted through the ninth for his 13th save after Oakland tacked on two runs in the top of the inning, one on Chapman's second homer.
The two-homer game was Chapman's first of the season and gave him a total of 27 for the year.
Grossman finished with three hits, while Chapman, Olson, Bailey and Stephen Piscotty collected two apiece for the A's, who completed an eight-game trip on which they alternated wins and losses.
Pillar had two hits for the Giants, who went 4-5 on a nine-game homestand.
