I own 25 acres of managed forest woodland in northern Nova Scotia. Closure of the pulp mill in Pictou County has cut the value of my land by 30 per cent, according to economists. There will be few or no markets for my carefully tended woodlots. I’m sure Halifax residents would feel as I do if their property values fell overnight by 30 per cent. There should be a way to close this rural-urban divide to benefit the whole province. The mill is continuing the regulatory process to make the new facility, in all respects, the best in the world.
