What colour do you see, as taxpayers, when you see political parties apply for wage subsidy through Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)?
I see red, and that’s not Liberal red by any stretch of the imagination.
The reason given by the three major political parties is that their political donations and revenues have dropped considerably in recent months and they want you, the taxpayer, to prop up their political party war chest, through no effort of their own.
Yes, you, the taxpayer, to fill up their war chests with your taxes.
It’s an easy cash grab and another example that political parties get away with far too much within our very lenient, too wide-open subsidy rules.
The gall of them, their executives, their leaders, their spinners of false dreams and realities, to even think of or consider such an asinine move with what has occurred throughout Canada in the past few months.
The thousands of unexpected deaths that thousands of grieving families have to deal with now and for years to come, even after this COVID-19 nightmare is over.
The massive downturn in the economy, thousands of businesses shut down, along with the massive number of layoffs and unemployed that have accrued is devastating to hundreds of thousands of great, hardworking Canadian families and businesses across the whole country. That’s where the financial, emotional and spiritual relief should be.
Sadly and unfortunately, however, it isn’t, at least not in the selfish, grab-all, get-what-you-can thought processes of political party camps in Canada.
So much for political party leadership and putting their best foot forward when the people of Canada really need it and deserve it as we all move through COVID-19.
Instead, what do we see? We see political party selfishness and cheapness at its very best. If that’s the best they can offer the people of Canada who are hurting so greatly, then our political party system has failed miserably at this critical time in our history.
Looks like the old normal is alive and rearing its ugly head: screw the taxpayer until they scream “we surrender.”
If that’s what our national political parties are offering as the new normal, then I want nothing more from them or to do with them.
Find another way! We expect much better from our national political parties.
