The federal government has announced a ban on so-called “assault-style” weapons in the wake of the tragic Nova Scotia killings.

Aside from the legally undefined term “assault style,” this should concern all Canadians.

Rather than going through the appropriate parliamentary procedures to get some sort of consensus, Trudeau elected to use an order in council, effectively nullifying any debate and oversight one would expect in a free and democratic system.

There are over two million firearms owners in Canada, and they are some of the most vetted and qualified people in the country. The hoops they must jump through would shock many Canadians.

What this ban does is punish peaceful people who have done no wrong because of the actions of an evil man, who did not have a firearms licence.

I urge Canadians to reject this ban, as it is wrong to punish the innocent for the crimes of the guilty.

In this time of fear and uncertainty, do not surrender your freedom so easily to those who would take it so willingly.
