EDITOR:
As much as I agree with your editorial in Wednesday’s paper about the lack of merit in the proposal to create a medical faculty at UPEI, I find your characterization of the NDP as a “failed political party” equally objectionable. If creating medicare, Old Age Security, CPP, equalization and promoting refugee immigration are failures, whatever is success? Is it e-gaming? Corrupt PNP administration? Starvation levels of social assistance? Or a total lack of affordable - accessible housing?
While I do not agree with Dr. Dickieson or Sharon Dunn about the need for or value of a medical school at UPEI at least they are putting forward ideas which, like those of the NDP itself, are rooted in the pursuit of social justice for all. The contribution of the NDP and the CCF before it to the nature of the Canada we know today should be praised, not derided.
