We are shocked and saddened at the push back from permanent residents regarding the government’s decision to allow seasonal residents entry by requested permission and self-isolation.
These opponents we suspect have pea-sized minds and they cannot think outside their bubble and therefore haven’t got a clue on the magnitude of the contribution made by these thousands of seasonal residents to your economy.
After we bought our cottage a few years ago, we spent $25-30,000 on upgrades and new appliances and we continue to do improvements each summer. And, of course, we pay taxes on these expenditures and help create jobs.
Also, while there we of course purchase groceries and fuel and patronize your restaurants and attractions. On top of that, as non-residents we pay double property taxes which we consider an insult.
As proud Canadians, we have had great pleasure criss-crossing our great country and have always felt welcomed. We were both born and raised in P.E.I. and proudly carry P.E.I birth certificates and will not be deterred from our annual visits to visit family and friends living there by a small group of dissidents.
We have been closely following the management by health authorities and government of the COVID-19 pandemic and would like to commend the officials on their management of this scary virus.
