EDITOR:
It is interesting how one simple enterprise can develop to become almost a lifestyle. Twelve years ago, our son Phillip wanted a summer job. By great luck while working down our street, I asked the paper delivery person if there were any newspaper routes in Kensington available for the summer months.
His face lit up and he said “YES” and gave me the contact number of the carrier manager. Off to the paper we went, and now 12 years later, all three of our children took charge of that original route with expansions in the past five years. All the while Clare and I have managed the flyer delivery in Kensington as a separate side job.
It is with mixed emotions that we announce to the staff of the Journal Pioneer and The Guardian newspapers plus our loyal customers that effective Sept. 1, 2019 we will be handing over the responsibilities of the newspaper and flyer routes to someone else.
Our paper delivery journey has been a long and enjoyable one and it is time to pass it along as Clare will be returning to school in the fall.
Our only regret with retiring is that we have had the greatest honour in serving some amazing paper customers for a very long time and will no longer have that specific role. The wonderful part, however, is that our customers remain our cherished neighbours in Kensington, and for that we are grateful.
Thank you sincerely Journal Pioneer office staff, the Flyer Delivery Distribution manager and our drop off drivers over the years, the various early morning Journal Pioneer and Guardian distribution drivers. And lastly and most importantly, to our customers – from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all your support for so many years!
