Two quotes: “the root of all evil is the love of money” and “when you realize you have enough, you are truly rich” come to my mind when I listen to the news that the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund and an Alberta Investment Group are under fire for investing in an American Private Company which runs prisons and detention centres.
It appears this U.S. firm is running short of customers/detainees and needing to keep their profit levels, are being investigated for their practices.
I have long advocated against public/private partnerships in the provision of government services. This is a prime example of what goes wrong when making money becomes more important than the lives of people.
