Today, May 22, is reopening day for many stores in the Charlottetown area.
I make my way down town around 10:15 a.m. to find traffic has increased and parking spaces very limited in the vicinity of where I was going. Free parking, yay! Does that mean workers in the area get to park there, too, thus limiting spaces for those who do want/need to shop down town? Is that being monitored?
Upon exiting my vehicle there are three men, two who are sitting in an alcove hinging on the sidewalk and across is a man on a bicycle (all chatting with one another). None of them move.
Where is social distancing being exercised here? I near the door to the establishment I was to enter on Queen Street only to find two city workers directly out front. One man moved to provide the six-foot distance while the other remained right at the entrance while continuing to use a broom. I found the experience less than comfortable.
If people feel we are out of the woods … we are not! Please exercise the social distancing regardless where you are. We are experiencing a bit of freedom right now so let’s keep doing our part to ensure we keep the virus at bay or we’ll be back to April’s restrictions all over again.
