I am compelled to respond to Colm Magner’s letter (We don’t need moralizing, March 26). It is obvious that Mr. Magner hasn’t any idea of which he speaks. The liquor stores were closed in order to put appropriate cautions in place for the safety of staff and the public. The long lineups at the liquor stores were not addicts anxious to get their liquor. The major concern regarding these lines was lack of social distancing.
Dr. Morrison in the March 27 Guardian stated, “There has always been access to alcohol in P.E.I.,” citing that agency stores and breweries are open to ensure Islanders have access to alcohol.
To suggest that Dr Morrison, an esteemed emergency room physician and academic, is not knowledgeable regarding addiction issues on P.E.I. is ludicrous and without foundation.
Mr. Magner’s demeaning last line referring to Dr. Morrison officiously (too ready to assert authority) mounting her high horse is insulting. Dr. Morrison, a dedicated mother, wife, emergency physician and public advocate doesn’t own a high horse!
Finally I agree with the headline of Mr. Magner’s letter: “We don’t need moralizing”. I strongly suggest we don’t need his kind of moralizing.
