EDITOR:
I witnessed on Sunday, Dec. 1 at approximately 1:17 p.m. a woman exiting Charlottetown's transit bus on University Avenue into very deep snow while carrying two large shopping bags.
Although she had difficulty, she made it to the sidewalk. The bus stayed in “stop mode” until someone could tell if the woman was going to make it safely (or at least that is what it appeared).
This is terrible on the part of whomever is responsible for clearing these bus stop locations.
Age is not a factor when you step off the bus. You expect clearance on the sidewalk. Be diligent in keeping these “stops” accessible regardless of the weather.
The excuse I hear so often is that “they weren’t prepared, it was the first major storm of the season.”
You should be, the storm was well forecasted.
