EDITOR:

Two recent articles from your court report merit comment. On Jan. 4th, you reported that a women with a BB gun was sentenced to 30 days in jail. I ask your readers to remember this when the federal Liberals talk about firearms crime in Canada. This BB gun (which was not used in a crime) and other lookalikes (which are not actually firearms) will be part of those statistics.

To support its planned gun bans, the federal Liberals want you to believe firearms crime is increasing across Canada. The truth is it has been declining since the mid-1970s, with a recent uptick in large urban centres due to gang violence.

On Jan. 9th, you reported that a man without a firearms licence was found to be in possession of an illegal restricted firearm (a handgun), ammunition, and a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles). For this string of offenses, he was sentenced to time served. The federal Liberals have promised to confiscate legally-owned property from Canada’s safest and most highly vetted citizens, all in the name of fighting crime. Meanwhile ACTUAL criminals get time served.

Hazelgrove
