EDITOR:
Do not be confused by the upcoming electoral reform referendum on Prince Edward Island. The choice is simple. Currently Island voters enjoy the freedom in law and the legislative right to vote for the candidate of your choice to represent you, your home and property on the floor of the provincial legislature.
You always have a direct representative for your riding. You can vote them all out of power in the next election. That is direct control and power you the individual voter have today. On the other hand, well-organized, well-financed groups are asking Island voters to give away that individual power and transfer that power to the backrooms of various political parties through an MMP (mixed member proportional) system that will select a candidate from their party list and appoint that person to sit as an elected representative on the floor of the House.
This elected representative will answer to no one and nowhere except the party that appointed them to their elected position. This will happen if you give away your individual power and right to vote for the candidate of your choice.
Vote No to MMP.
