An opinion piece penned by Prajwala Dixit in Guardian (March 7) titled “India on the edge?” seems to unintentionally disseminate misinformation with twisted narratives of political incidences in India following Trump’s recent visit over there. It promotes irrational fear and undermines vibrant democratic institutions by sweeping generalizations. Currently we all live in a shrunken global village and are bombarded constantly with numerous exaggerated narratives and contradictory and often false pieces of information.

In this digital era, it is imperative to equip ourselves with a middle-ground approach in analyzing political events around the globe and find ways to attain healthy personal and national growth by creating and strengthening vibrant communities free of prejudice and hatred. Perhaps it is time for us to have a new mind-set, constructive attitude and conviction to rise above the underlying divisive politics and religious intolerance towards each other in order to achieve progress in a peaceful and harmonious manner and not to sink into the pit of inter-group and inter-racial conflicts.
