Trying to read all the stories in the Guardian relating to our election would keep me at the breakfast table for hours. I’m a busy person and have no time for that. But I do read some. One in particular grabbed my attention today, April 13th on page A8.
The headline was “Protecting productive land,” and the sub-head was “Party leaders debate farmland access and whether changes are needed to P.E.I.’s Lands Protection Act.” That sub-head had me wanting to read more. While the word “whether” did confuse me momentarily in my early morning fog, I did read on.
NDP leader Joe Byrne has called for more transparency around land sales, and in fact, he wants more sunshine! Yes, he said, and I quote, “The first thing we need to do is bring some sunlight. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
Well, my goodness, I am a person who loves winter sunshine more than summer, but if the NDP party can bring more sunshine to our tiny province, I say, “Bring it on.” But, keep in mind the drought of 2003. Farmers’ crops suffered.
So, try to maintain the minimum and just allow sunshine when we really need it. I’m sorry Joe, I just could not resist. I mean, if one of our politicians in P.E.I. is going to control the weather, we’ve got it made! I think, at this point, with all the disparaging comments these politicians have made towards each other, earlier on, a little sarcastic humour is needed.
