I don't listen to any promises made by politicians campaigning in elections. The question is should Summerside follow Maritime Electric rate increases. The last city council had hired a consultant to examine the cost of a back-up generator or alternate generation. Green energy needs a battery or storage device. I favour having green energy year-round. I don't know if it cost effective or viable that is what the consultant is for. The city proposed an eco-park on Greenwood Drive in Summerside but had no tenant. Had the report been ready, Summerside would have known if it was viable to purchase the property for a solar farm giving Summerside the option to pursue developing the woods as walking trails. Either way residents are on the hook for rate increases whether to purchase a generator or purchase green energy. My concern is Summerside is turning into a Little Toronto and Summerside Police Services doesn't have the leadership to deal with the problem. Summerside can't purchase new equipment without rate increases.
