We are seniors living across from Westview Drive on North River Road. We have to cross busy North River Road to access the sidewalk on that side and then cross it again to go to Vista Street, where our mailbox is. The sidewalk on our side stops at Vista Street corner and from there on, are six duplexes with mostly seniors’ tenants. There is also a very narrow bike lane, so when we do walk on the bike lane, we can't hear them coming with the noisy, bumper to bumper traffic.
There are also kids living further out and we witnessed one nearly getting hit last winter. The sidewalk plow doesn't plow a path for us to walk on, so we are forced to cross North River Road four times in order to get our mail. However, we see sidewalks in West Royalty plowed on both sides of the road for two miles or more. The traffic out there doesn't compare to North River Road. It is nonstop but especially busy in the morning and late afternoon.
Do we have to wait for a serious accident or fatality before a safe path is made for people to walk on in the area from Vista Street to the traffic lights at Ellen's Creek? Try walking across North River Road where the only crosswalk is too far away, especially if people are elderly or have mobility problems.
