EDITOR:
I am a student at Westisle Composite High School and I am writing to you because I am concerned about what medications the P.E.I. health care system covers.
Everyone should have the right to be healthy, yet some people cannot afford the medication that they need because it costs so much. Some medications are covered by “general medication coverage” but a lot of the time the medication they need is not covered. We should cover more of the common medication onto that plan. By doing this, there will be less people having stress or suffer just to get more health problems.
I find it disgusting that the health care system would let people, especially children, suffer because they cannot get the medication that they need because they cannot afford it. For example, a small bottle of ear drops can be up to $40. For some families, they cannot purchase these ear drops because they do not have that big of an income for the household. It would be miserable to have to be sick and have to suffer through it due to them not having the money to buy the needed medication.
Therefore, by covering more medication it can help a lot of people who need the medication. There will be less parents stressed about their children getting the medication that they need, or people worried about themselves. It will also help elderly people who do not work get the medication they need. This is very significant for a lot of people in the long run, and our government needs to realize that they have to help more people. Sincerely,
Emma Bénard,
