EDITOR:
I encourage P.E.I. Education Minister Jordan Brown to put forth legislation to have students sing ‘O Canada’ in classrooms without any musical accompaniment. I think it makes people lazy and the expectation is that people not sing. And when you get to big events (like graduations, sports events etc.) people aren't singing either. (A similar project is supported by a Toronto area school board.)
It's unpatriotic, and I think as minister of education, Mr. Brown should see the need to be instilling some better values around patriotism and good citizenship to Islanders. Young people singing O Canada at the beginning of a school day is not very onerous and I believe it’s a great opportunity to teach young islanders the love of country.
