EDITOR:
Earlier this month, while visiting P.E.I. on vacation and sitting on the deck at Richard’s Sea Food in Covehead, I had the misfortune to suffer a medical emergency. For a few minutes, I was incapacitated. The restaurant staff immediately called emergency services, and assisted my wife to talk on their phone with emergency services about my symptoms.
Paramedics smoothly bundled me onto a stretcher and into their vehicle. They quickly made the decision that I needed to be taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. My wife (a retired RN) was very impressed with the professionalism of these two ladies.
At the hospital, even before my wife arrived in Emergency, I was seen by Dr. Brown and taken for a CT scan. Paramdics stayed with me until the scan was complete. They then turned me over to an RN who closely monitored me in observation for the next few hours. Dr. Brown then returned, gave me his diagnosis and handed me a three-page report that I could take to my family doctor. I was then discharged to the care of my wife.
I write this to say how impressed we were with the expertise, compassion and care we received from the health care system of P.E.I. We wish to express our gratitude to the staff at Richard’s, paramedics Emily and Becky, nurse Natalie and Dr. Brown for their care. P.E.I. is very fortunate to have the high-quality emergency services and hospital care that we experienced.
