On March 9, the world celebrated International Women’s Day with the hashtag #BallanceForBetter. On that day we called for collective action and shared responsibility for driving a gender-balanced world. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance. Lots of politicians on Prince Edward Island took to social media to post their support for this very worthy imitative. It’s very easy to do a social media post stating your support for something, however, actions speak louder than words. Newly minted PC leader Dennis King had his own social media hashtag #TheUglyOnesCountToo. See, he thought it was funny to degrade woman to boost up his comedy act. It is this kind of behavior this day wants to stop. Shame on PC members like Darlene Compton and Sarah Stewart-Clark for staying quiet on the issue. They should have taken issue with these posts and not silent. Their silence means that it’s OK to demean women in the name of comedy. It just goes to show that their membership in the ol’boys club that is the PC party is up to date.
