EDITOR:
I was very disappointed in the editorial of Dec. 12, 2018 entitled "Fresh faces in PC race." The Guardian concluded that editorial by quoting a political observer who noted: "Mr. King is funny, out-going, friendly and likeable - all things our current premier is not."
There have been a number of occasions in the past when the editorial has rightfully promoted the idea that politicians and political parties should work together for the benefit of all Islanders, rather than engaging in name calling and so-called dirty politics. On this occasion however, it seems to be taking the low road in a very disrespectful manner.
I do not think the current Premier was elected to be funny, out-going, friendly and likeable. Rather, he was elected to lead the province to a level of prosperity where we could afford improvements in health care, education, social services and infrastructure. There is much still to do, but with the positive budget results and the improvements already made, the Premier seems to be doing rather well. For that, I think he deserves a significant level of respect, rather than ridicule.
