Every once in a while, there is reference made in The Telegram to the offshore oil and gas industry. The page 1 headline in The People’s Paper of Sept. 15 was, “Oil and gas dominate debate.” I don’t believe reporter David Maher was commenting on the lack of decorum in the House of Assembly.
I know there is an oil industry offshore, but is there a gas (No, Nan and Pop, not gasoline but natural gas) industry?
If there is, how many cubic meters of gas (thousands, millions, billions, trillions) have been produced since 1997 and the Hibernia GBS tow-out?
What are the royalties for this province?
How is the gas transported to market? Tanker? Underwater pipeline? Yellow submarine? Huge schools of puffer fish?
These days the popular term used is fake news. The older term was the French word canard meaning duck.
Of course, really meaning decoy.
