I am writing in response to the Sept. 4 letter “We must make drug decriminalization a federal election issue.”
I feel that overdoses and addictions should be taken more seriously because there are so many deaths regarding overdoses that come from pre-existing addictions.
Over 11,000 Canadians have died from fatal overdoses since the last federal election in 2015.
It doesn't matter what individual it can happen to whether he or she is established in a professional career.
Addiction can happen to anyone just like any other chronic illness. Many people discriminate against people that have had backgrounds or past history with anything to do with drugs and they are treated as if it is a moral and a crime issue.
I feel that this issue is as important as anything else and every person has the same rights and should have the same opportunities as anyone else would.
We don’t treat our doctors, teachers, lawyers or any other person the way some people see others. Anyone can use help sometimes a little more than others but just because of that we shouldn’t look at them any other way.
