EDITOR:

No What to Vote wants you to know what to vote for. This is for your vote in the coming “referendumb” on whether the Island should adopt a Mixed-up Member Pro-rational System, pronounced MuMPs (the lumpy disease), or stay with the current First-Past-the-Post, pronounced FiPyPut.

No What to Vote wants you to know that you should vote No. Their leader, John Barrett, makes a gentle reminder that minority Federal governments have enjoyed a short shelf life.

Barrett doesn't say how many of our recent Islands elections, under MuMPs, would have been minority governments. Memory, which may be good, maybe bad, says that the majority of elections in the past 40 years or so would have been minority governments, where a one-thought party may become the tail that wags the dog. FiPyPut, on the other hand has given us a majority of majority governments.

It all comes down to whether you wish a majority of minorities (MuMPs) or a majority of majorities (FiPyPut).

Carl Mathis,

Charlottetown
