I am so happy to learn that the government and P.E.I Public Schools Branch are looking into the serious practice of cars passing stopped school buses. I’m starting to think that it’s gonna take a recent tragedy like in Indiana where a driver hit and killed three kids who were getting on the bus to get this message across and to get it to stop.
Although I’m not a parent, I was one of these children who lived it. I can say this scares and traumatizes them forever. Every time I see on the news and read in the paper about one of these events my mind flashes back to my event 34 years ago. I can hear the zoom of the car, the yell of my name, of the bus driver out the window and how scared I was.
Let me tell you the thought that I was one step away from being seriously injured or killed just because some driver was in a rush and my safety wasn’t as important as their destination is not right and a memory no kid needs to have to live with.
