Born in Charlottetown, P.E.I., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes Ferguson. After receiving her education in Charlottetown, she moved for employment to Halifax where she met her husband, married and raised their family in Dartmouth. She was devoted to her family and taught us to have great faith. A member of Grace United Church; she enjoyed Sunday services for as long as she was able to attend. Thelma enjoyed gardening, the outdoors spending many sunny days on her deck chatting with neighbours and watching all the feathered friends in the garden. She had a keen interest in politics keeping up with current affairs of the day. Summer vacations and trips to Prince Edward Island for all holidays always were happy moments in her life; enjoying laughter, good times and entertaining us all with stories of growing up in a large family with her parents and siblings. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Hilda Szalay, Odella (Babe) Mahar, and Florence McNichol. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and their families always enjoying their visits both in Dartmouth and Prince Edward Island. Besides her husband she was also predeceased by her sisters, Joan, Olive, Olga and Henrietta, and brothers, Elmer, Gerald, Roger, Gordon and Hessel. She will be taking her final trip “home” to Prince Edward Island to be laid to rest. Visitation will take place at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel on Friday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service on Saturday at 11 a.m. from MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Interment in Peoples Cemetery, Charlottetown. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Prince Edward Island. With words from her favourite Island song, “But there's a little Island I long there to be, Prince Edward Island, I'm coming to stay. A touch of God's great hand this Island must be, Prince Edward Island is heaven to me.”
