1920 - 2018 With sadness in her passing but gratitude for a long life well lived, we announce the death of Mary Nantes, of Charlottetown, on Monday, November 12, 2018, age 98. Beloved wife of the late Gerald T. Nantes (1989). Survived by her loving family, David (Dianne LaRose), Maureen Garrity, Suzanne Gee (Derek), Rosemary Vigeant (Robert, deceased), Claire Nantes (John Mitchell). Predeceased by infant son, Ian William (1950). Grandmother to sixteen: Darren Nantes (Shauna), Chris Nantes (Lesley Burns), Heather Nantes (Josh Hill), Carolyn Peters (Adam), Timothy Garrity (Lorienda), Steven Garrity (Jennifer), Emily Elder (Jason), Patrick Garrity (Monica Hawthorne), Aaron Gee (Lara Gaudet), Amanda Gee (Damon Wood), Erica Gee (Mike Smith), Michelle Melendy (Jason), Allison Vigeant (Craig Slaunwhite), Melanie Arseneault (Pierre), Gerry Mitchell and Mary Kathleen Mitchell. She took a special interest in her twenty great grandchildren who always knew there was a treat for them with each visit. Remembered by sister-in-law Sheila Hogan, son-in-law Bruce Garrity, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary will be missed by many caring people, including The Bridge Club and her new friends at Geneva Villa. The last of the Hogan siblings, she was predeceased by brothers John, Jim, Edgar and Richard and sisters Lillian Colclough, Estelle Walsh and Irene Smith. Also predeceased by brothers-in-law Joe, John and Russell Nantes, sisters-in-law Helen Driscoll, Mary Kelly, Sister Maria Aquin Nantes, C.S.C., and Rita MacIntyre. Born on June 7, 1920, Mum witnessed dramatic changes in the world and learned from it all. She had limited access to formal education but instilled its value in her family and was proud of our accomplishments. She enjoyed her career in administration at the Charlottetown Hospital. She was an exceptional cook, a gracious host and knew how to stretch a dollar farther than a pair of pantyhose! Resting at the Hennessy Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 17, with Funeral mass from the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Reception at the Haviland Club, 2 Haviland Street, 12:30 p.m. All welcome. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
