Mary Theresa Johnston

Mary Theresa Johnston
JOHNSTON, Mary Theresa (Ormond) On March 14, 2021, in Barry’s Bay, ON we said goodbye to our Mom, Mary T Johnston (Mamie) at the home of her daughter and son-in- law with whom she resided (Karen & Rob since 2019). Born in Sydney, NS on November 24, 1930, Mamie was the daughter of the late Patrick and Suzanna Ormond (O’ Grady). Her life journey began on Mira Road, graduating from Holy Angels High School and working at Crowells Ltd until her marriage to Edward Johnston in 1951. Although she moved from Alexandra Street in 1970 she would make the journey home in the fall for her yearly visit. Mamie made significant contributions to the community of Kemptville, Ontario, where she made her home for over 40 years. She was a dedicated volunteer and supporter of Kemptville & District Hospital Pharmacy and District Home Support and was recognized by the Province for her work. She delivered Meals on Wheels and moved to assisting in food preparation and serving its “Diners Club” until her health began to fail. Mamie is survived by her six children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth [Albert Dufresne] Stittsville, ON; Michael [Katherine and sons, Ormond & Brandon] Sydney, N.S.; Karen [Rob Filipkowski and son Ben] Barry’s Bay, ON; Bernadette [Tom Edwards and children Connor & Alyson] Carleton Place, ON; Ormond [Linda and children Hannah & Michael] Oxford Mills, ON; Kathy [Ken Storen and children Katelyn & Devin] Barrhaven, ON. Great grandchildren: Solomon, Mila, Svea and Hansel Johnston(Brandon & Sasha’s children) Maisy, Miley, and Makenna Edwards (Conner and Katelyn’s children) Kaja Christina Johnston (Ormond and Sonja’s child). Mamie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Sharon Ormond, Sydney, NS; a sister-in-law, Margaret Ormond, BC and a number of nieces and nephews throughout Canada. We take solace knowing that her spirit is reunited with those she loved, her husband of 60 years, Edward Johnston: her brothers; Dougal and Philip and her sister, Margie. A sincere thank you to all who provided care, support and compassion to her and our family during our loss. Mamie was a member of Holy Cross Church, Kemptville. Cremation has taken place by Zohr Funeral Home and a celebration of life will be arranged for a later date in Sydney,NS. Internment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Tributes and condolences may be sent to www.zohrfuneralhome.com
