James Herbert DUNN

James Herbert Dunn
In Memoriam James Herbert (Jimmy) Dunn It’s hard to believe it’s been one year since you left us so suddenly. Your memory lives on in those who loved you so much. Jimmy was born January 4th, 1949. He was the middle child to Herbert and Mary Dunn of Fort Augustus with siblings Josephine (Rogerson) and Vinny Dunn. Jimmy spent his early years attending Fort Augustus School and helping on the family farm. Jimmy had always displayed a keen interest in volunteering and helping others. Remembered fondly as a passionate community builder and leader, Jimmy was one of the founding members of the Fort Augustus Recreation Centre – a facility he continued to volunteer with up until the time of his passing. Jimmy also served in various volunteer roles with the Eastern Kings Hockey League, the Island Baseball League and the PEI Broomball Association in his younger years. Well known for his love of politics, Jimmy was a longtime volunteer and organizer with the Prince Edward Island Liberal Association and the Cardigan Federal Liberal Association. He also served as President of Celebrate Canada Committee for many years. On November 10th, 1978, Jimmy married Pam (Wilson) and together, they raised two children, Darcy and Brad on the family farm in Fort Augustus. Along with his farm responsibilities, Jimmy took great pleasure in providing safe transportation for kids to and from school each day as a school bus driver for over 40 years. As Darcy and Brad began showing an interest in sports, Jimmy’s voluntarism shifted to local minor sports including the Fort Augustus and Area Minor Baseball Association and the Pownal Minor Hockey Association where he was president for over 20 years. Always up for a challenge, especially when he was told something couldn’t be done, Jimmy dug in and became the driving force behind the building of the twin rink facility – The Pownal Sports Centre - in 2003-2004 to meet the growing demand for ice time required by Pownal Minor Hockey. Up until the time of his death, Jimmy remained actively involved with the facility and took great pride in seeing his grandchildren be able to use the facility in recent years. Although a big part of Jimmy’s life was spent as a volunteer and community leader, Jimmy’s love of his family was evident to everyone who knew him. He was always at his happiest with a house full of family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Although an unfortunate accident in 2016 left Jimmy with some mobility issues, he didn’t let it slow him down as he remained active and social in his community right up until the time of his death. Always remembered, forever loved by wife Pam, sons Darcy (Jenilee), Brad (Sarah) and grandchildren Leigha, Rosalie, Anna, Henry, Kate and Leo.
