VANDERGAAG, Hendrika Elizabeth Hendrika Elizabeth vanderGaag went peacefully, and with rejoicing, to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 28th, 2020, at Beach Grove Home, in her 81st year. Hendrika passed surrounded in loving care with family, both near and far, and with compassionate and caring staff. Hendrika is predeceased by her adoring parents Marinus and Marjorie vanderGaag, sister, Marina, and niece, Angela. Born on May 2,1939 in the Netherlands. Hendrika happily immigrated to Prince Edward Island in May of 1958. After some time, Hendrika moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where she dedicated herself as a lab technician in a career spanning 30 years at the IWK Hospital, NICU. Upon retirement, Hendrika moved back to PEI to live in her beautiful home in Argyle Shore. She liked to be busy and enjoyed many hobbies and adventures including gardening, walks on the beach, knitting, embroidering, crocheting, traveling, singing, learning piano, and being with her family and friends, both human and furry. Hendrika remained content in Argyle Shore at her "little piece of heaven" until her physical health required her to move to Beach Grove home. Hendrika is survived and remembered by her sister Irene (Henk, deceased) and brothers, John (Joyce), Bernhard (Cathy), Paul (Mary) along with many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. Hendrika was a loyal, funny, and fun-loving, hard working, humble, and deeply caring person. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, sister in-law, Tante, and dear friend to many. Resting at Central Queens Funeral Home, New Glasgow, PEI. There will be no wake by personal request. A private funeral service will take place, Friday, July 3, which will be live streamed on the Central Queen’s Funeral Home Facebook page. Interment in Canoe Cove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK Neonatal Unit, PEI Humane Society, Beach Grove Home, or a charity of your choosing. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Beach Grove Home for their support and kindness to Hendrika.
