George Patrick O'Connor

O’CONNOR, George Patrick It is with heavy hearts but loving memories that we announce the passing on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 of George Patrick O’Connor of Cornwall, Prince Edward Island. Born in Souris on October 8, 1942 to Donald and Elva (Ford), he was loving husband to Linda and devoted father to Tara, Rory (Jane), and Ryan. He leaves behind two brothers, Brenton and Dennis, sisters-in-law Valery, Tina, and Cathy, brothers-in-law Paddy, Edward, Aeneas, and Reggie, and many nieces, nephews, and their children. He was predeceased by his parents, son Liam, granddaughter Siobhan, brothers Kenny and Bernie, sisters Wendy, Donna, and Donalda, and brothers-in-law Ernie and Mike. After attending university at Saint Dunstan’s and McGill he enjoyed a lengthy career helping people as a social worker. A proud Islander and lover of his Irish heritage, he devoted himself to preserving the music and history of his predecessors. A memorial will occur at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Pediatric Unit or the D’Arcy McGee Chair of Irish Studies at Saint Mary’s University. To help brighten the Island during these trying times, we ask that you play a tune or sing a song in George’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home.
