Gary Ellis
ELLIS, Gary It is heartbreaking to lose our beloved Gary Ellis. Gary is survived by his wife Patricia (Hardwick) Ellis, daughter Charlotte Ellis, grandson Isaac Doyle and brother Dale Ellis (Bonnie McOrmond). He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law Terrie Hardwick (Tom Matheson), Jim Hardwick (Joanne Lavergne), Joanne Hardwick (Doug MacDonald), Loretta Hardwick (Michael Roy), Paul Hardwick and Alan Hardwick and his mother-in-law Bernadette Hardwick. Gary was born May 13, 1951 in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia and was predeceased by his parents Pauline and Albert (Allie) Ellis. Gary started an early involvement with the army militia which he continued through high school and obtained the ranking of Captain. In 1973 he completed a bachelor of Business Administration at Acadia University. He entered the insurance industry and had a long 45-year career as an independent insurance adjuster. He was very proud of his contribution to the profession. His technical abilities were recognized internationally and resulted in his involvement in large complex projects such as Strait Crossing. He was an active member and supporter of the Canadian Independent Adjusters Association where he served on the executive and was a long term chair of the education committee where he rolled out the establishment of curriculum evaluation standards. He was known as a reliable and knowledgeable source of guidance for colleagues and a mentor to those newer in the industry. Gary was known for his extraordinary wit and keen intellect. Gary enjoyed his summers at his cottage in Stanley Bridge where he would spend his time gardening and boating. He dabbled in beekeeping and raising chickens and very much enjoyed the occasional game of crib with his friends when home in Charlottetown. If you choose, a donation in memory of Gary may be made on-line to Hospice PEI or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.
