Frederick Russell Seller

Frederick Russell Seller
Frederick Russell Seller, at Beach Grove Home, surrounded by family and friends on March 20, 2019. Born in Charlottetown, Frederick’s childhood was filled with the joy of spending summers with his family in Keppoch. He began his lifelong love of swimming and the ocean during these early years. As a young man Frederick loved music and drama. He played piano, and his dramatic flair was expressed through performances in a variety of musical productions throughout his life. Gilbert and Sullivan were favourites. Frederick studied theology at Pine Hill divinity School in Halifax and was ordained by the United Church of Canada in 1964. Never one to follow the status quo, after ordination he tended to his sense of adventure and traveled to Europe and Morocco before beginning ministry. Frederick then headed west to Saskatchewan where he met his wife Carol. After studying at Selly Oak college in Birmingham and traveling in Europe, they returned to the east coast where their children Stefan and Krista were born. The family settled in Saskatoon, where Frederick served as a congregational minister and later as a chaplain and social worker within Long-Term care. Frederick was a natural leaded and team player. Colleagues loved his deep compassion, wisdom and sense of humour that he brought to the most challenging of situations. Throughout his life Frederick continued to nourish his passion for music. He sang in the Saskatoon Men’s Choir, performed musical theatre with the Saskatoon Opera, and acted in numerous church dinner theatre productions. Frederick deeply valued his connections with family and friends in PEI. He maintained his strong Island roots through annual summer visits with his family to their cottage in Hartsville, where he and Carol later retired. They loved exploring the world together and enjoyed trips to Europe, New Zealand and Hawaii with their children. Frederick and Carol established a strong community through their involvement at West River United Church and singing in choirs. Throughout his journey with dementia, the essence of Frederick’s loving spirit remained strong. He was always quick to say, “I love you” and remind us: “I will always be with you”. Beloved husband of Carol Stevenson Seller, father of Stefan (Jane Lee), and Krista (Chris MacDonald); brother of David MacLeod Seller, uncle of Anne (Jochen Orth), Jennifer (Dave Steele), Jonathan (Julie MacDermott). Remembered by cousins, their families, and a wide circle of friends. A service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held at West River United Church in Cornwall on Wednesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. Arrangements by Belvedere Funeral Home. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s society of PEI or West River United Church. The family deeply appreciates the care provided to Frederick during his time at Beach Grove Home.
