Father R. Floyd Gallant
In the early morning of Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre, we said goodbye to our dear brother, Father Floyd Gallant, recent Rector of St. Dunstan’s Basilica, age 63 years. He was the son of the late Robert Earl and Bernadette (Blacquiere) Gallant of North Rustico. Ordained to the ministerial priesthood in 1982 by Most Reverend James H. MacDonald, Fr. Floyd served as Associate Pastor in the parishes of St. Philippe and St. Jacques, Egmont Bay, St. Pius X Charlottetown and St. Paul’s Parish in Summerside. Among the parishes he served as Pastor are, St. Margaret of Scotland in St. Margaret’s and St. Charles Borromeo in St. Charles, St. Anthony’s, Bloomfield, St. John the Baptist, Miscouche, St. Alexis and St. Francis de Sales in Rollo Bay and Little Pond, St. Mary’s, Souris, Holy Redeemer, Charlottetown and finally as Rector at the Cathedral for the last eight years of his ministry. Fr. Floyd leaves behind his siblings; Fr. Brendon Gallant, Angela (Marvin) Leroy, Allan (Dorinda), Garnett, Giles, and Lorna (Ellen), two sisters-in-law; Rose and Nancy. He also leaves behind seven nephews and one niece and their families, and one surviving uncle, with a large number of cousins. Besides his parents, Fr. Floyd was predeceased by his two oldest brothers Donald (2016) and Harvey (1996). Our hearts are full of love and admiration for our brother and swell with gratitude for the loving care he received from his family doctor, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre. We are thankful for the devotion and dedication of his family of diocesan priests who have loved and helped him along his spiritual journey. We are also thankful for every act of kindness and concern expressed by them to all of Floyd’s family. The staff of St. Dunstan’s Basilica who loved and cared for Floyd and then extended their love to us allowing us to make Floyd’s rectory home a home for us for many months and making our journey with Floyd’s care possible. His remains are entrusted to the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home and will be transferred to St. Dunstan’s Basilica on Wednesday, December 19th at 1:15 p.m. Visiting hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. concluding with Evening Prayer at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Dunstan’s on Thursday, December 20th at 10:00 a.m. Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Due to allergies please refrain from wearing scents or perfumes. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Anderson House or the St. Dunstan’s Refugee Fund.
