PENDERGAST, Ethel Bernadine (Deighan) The death occurred peacefully at Clinton View Lodge on Thursday, September 24th, 2020, of Ethel Bernadine (Deighan) Pendergast, formerly of Kensington and Darnley, age 94. Daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Johnston) Deighan, she is survived by her husband of 70 years Austin Pendergast. She is survived by her loving children Mary, Allan, Patrick (Maxine), Kevin (Debbie Gillis), Rita (Wayne Crosby), Anna (Hartwig Stammberger), Paul (Lulu Ariffin), Noel (Scot Green), foster daughter Isabel (Don Larkin), and foster son Bill (Mary) Lawless. Loving grandmother of Matthew (Angela), Bronwyn (Bruce), Sarah (Gunnar), and Ashley (Danny) Crane; Norah, Natalie (Lionel), and James Pendergast; Anna and Cailin (Katie) Crosby, and Ellen (Rob) Cote; Noelle (Dash) Malone; Trysta Doary and Dylan Pendergast; Sven (Allison) and Tessa (Sasha) Stammberger; and Jamie (Tammy) Lewis. Loving great-grandmother of 15: Jude, Avery, and Nate Rist; Thea, Arthur and David Knickle; Chella and Fox Crane; Archie and Seamus Stanley; Ilsa and Isaac MacKinnon; Iggy Nash; Maeve Crosby; and Melanie Lewis. Also survived by siblings Sister Mary Deighan, Greg (Pauline) Deighan, and Francis (Carol) Deighan; sisters-in-law Patricia Stanyer and Frances (Tom) McSwiggan, Shelegh Pendergast, and Eileen Pendergast Doucette, and brother-in-law Rev Fr. Art Pendergast. Ethel was predeceased by many of her Deighan siblings: Charles (Rose), Elsie (Charles) Connolly, Bine(Lorne)Keefe, Kay (Joe) Coady, Rita (Paul) Stanich, Stanley, Richard (Bea), Edith, Ernest/Junior, Joan (Gordon)MacDonald, Isabel (John) Tuck, Sue (Floyd) Millett, and Bill; and predecreased by brothers and sisters in law: Mary, Edward (Donalda), Bill (Lenora (1) and Barbara (2)), Tom, Eugene/Casey (Kay), and Reginald. Ethel will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and her large extended groups of family and friends. Ethel loved children, all social gatherings, dancing with Austin, and being with people wherever she found herself. As #five of 17 siblings, she grew up surrounded with children and family and built her own loving family while active as a farm wife, caring host for many years at Penderosa Cottages and Campground, and as a community volunteer through many organizations. She was proud of her lifetime memberships in the Catholic Women's League and Women's Institute and her awards, together with husband Austin, from the Tourism Association of PEI. Ethel loved every gathering, often entertaining everyone with her stories and reminiscences; she was famous for socializing with everyone in the room, whether it was a party or a restaurant. She was loved by many and had an extraordinary ability to deeply touch the hearts of family and friends far and wide. Resting at the Davison Funeral Home in Kensington, a private funeral mass celebrated by Fr. Art Pendergast and Fr. Frank Jay will be held Monday, September 28th at St. Mary's Holy Family Church and will be available to watch online after 12:30 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the St Mary's Holy Family Parish, Meals on Wheels Kensington area, or to a charity of your choice.
