Ernie Grant — Halifax

At the QEII Health Sciences Centre (Halifax), Ernest (Ernie) Joseph Grant of Cornwall, age 85, passed away on February 17, 2019. Born November 22, 1933 in Peakes, PEI. Devoted husband of Virginia (Ginny) Grant. Adored father of Maria (Peter Blake), Alan/AJ (Kim Cox), Pat (Tanya), Paul (Kim) and Shawna (Rowland Kelly). Loving grandpa to Brooklyne, Taylor, Ava and Claire. Brother of Ray (Colleen) and Tom (Annette). Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Sadie (Bambrick) of Peakes and siblings Pearl, Mabel, Patricia, Basil, Merlin and Kenny. A longtime employee of Marine Atlantic with 40 years of service, Ernie started out washing windows on the ships, rose in the ranks to Chief Engineer and finished his career as Director of Marine Engineering, with a pivotal role in the building of the MV Abegweit. Member of the 1956 Island champions Peakes Bombers baseball team. Quiet and thoughtful with a keen ability to tell a story, he could easily be drawn into a rousing conversation about politics, hockey or golf. Special thanks go to the Coronary Care Unit (Halifax), as well as Dr. Greg Hirsch (Halifax) and Dr. Nichole Murphy (Charlottetown) for their years of wonderful care and support. Visitation and funeral are being postponed to a date to be published in the spring. Ernie was a kind and honourable man. We’ll miss him.
