Clair was an excellent farmer. He took over the family farm in Augustine Cove at the age of twenty-three following his father’s death. His stewardship of his animals and the soil was exemplary. For several years he farmed cooperatively with his uncle, Vernal Webster. He was always willing to lend a hand to his fellow farmers. Sports were an important part of Clair’s life. He played hockey, softball, curling and golf and enjoyed horse racing and ice fishing. He also excelled at bowling. Although he never had children of his own, he had a gift interacting with young people. His quick and easy smile, the mischievous laughs that he shared, as well as his sheer delight in sports and games made him a true favourite with his many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews. Clair’s well-stocked workshop and his talents at repairing things were well used and appreciated. He contributed his time and skills to the Cove community, Crapaud Hockey Rink and Curling Club, Camp Abegweit, South Shore United Church and the maintenance of the Veterans’ Memorial. Those in the family that made their permanent homes off Island depended on Clair to keep them informed about Island happenings! The family extend a very special thank you to the staff at the Mount Continuing Care Community and, in particular, the staff in the Carriage House, as well as Dr. Stacy Champion for the care, kindness and compassion they gave to Clair. Resting at the Dawson Funeral Home in Crapaud. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private funeral service (by invitation only) will be held at the South Shore United Church.
