Charlie Murphy

Charlie Murphy
In Loving Memory of Charlie Murphy June 25,1927 – Aug 25, 2018 On August 25,2018 our family ANCHOR passed away peacefully after a short stay at Palliative Care. Firstborn of 11 to George and Margaret (Harrington) Dad was raised on a farm in Millvale. No stranger to hard work he went off to BC to work in a lumber mill early 1950’s and then on to Toronto where he met an Island girl, Teresa McKenna. They married July 1955 and their family started with Brian and Diane, but the lure back to PEI meant a return in 1960 to take over the McKenna homestead in Newton. Wayne, Gerard, Colleen, came along to complete the family of five before moving to Cornwall in 1968. Dad worked in construction 1968-1992 where he made many lifelong friends. As life unfolded, the family circle grew to include three granddaughters, three grandsons, and 3 great granddaughters ALL of whom adored their Grampy. Dad’s sense of humor enabled him to communicate with ease with people of all ages. Love of people, music, dancing, bowling, a good joke or comment, his hearty laughs all kept Dad young. He enjoyed his chats with friends at Tim’s on St. Peters Road, dances in Rustico, Club 56’, and playing cards at Hemlock court, and always attending Sunday AM church. Many Thanks to all his friends who called, visited, kept in touch, he really appreciated ALL of you. For all who attended his 90’th birthday celebration June 25, 2017, you brought endless smiles to his face. Our heartfelt thanks to all who donated to charities in Dad’s memory, Jumpstart, Upper Room Hospitality Ministry and for the mass enrollments. Special thank you to ALL the wonderful healthcare providers involved in Dad’s care at Polyclinic, EMS, QEH, Home Care staff, Corrigan Lodge and Palliative Care. We also wish to thank St. Pius X parish CWL, the choir’s beautiful music, Fr. Maurice Praught, Fr. John Lacey, Fr. Bob Coady. A sincere thank you to the efficient staff of Central Queen’s Funeral Home. Thanks to Thelma at Murphy’s Place for the Charlie Murphy Memorial Race Aug 12, 2019. We miss our chats, your sense of humor, gathering around the table enjoying a meal. We think of you daily and remind ourselves how blessed we were to have you present in our lives for 91 years. Forever in our hearts . Loved and missed. Brian, Diane, Wayne, Gerard, Colleen, and families.
